What is RAM?

The memory in your RAM can only hold onto data when your laptop is powered on. So what does it actually do when you’re busy typing away on your computer and browsing the web?
RAM is what loads the data for whatever you’re doing. When you open a new tab or your web browser, that’s your RAM doing the heavy lifting. You can think of it as your computer’s working memory that loads information for whatever you’re currently using; applications, browsers, or games.
But RAM isn’t just any kind of memory, it’s short-term based. In the computer world, the memory is called “volatile” because once you turn off your computer, it “forgets” whatever is on it.
There are three main types of RAM for consumers to choose from; DDR3, DDR3L, and DDR4. We will be diving into the specifics of the last type of RAM, the DDR4.
What is DDR4 RAM?
DDR4 SDRAM is an abbreviation for “Double Data Rate Fourth Generation Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory.” The last dynamic RAM update was the DDR3 which came out in 2007 , but developers were actually already working on the DDR4 all the way back in 2005.

How to Install DDR4 RAM
Before you start, you’ll need to know how to check DDR4 RAM compatibility and if its speed (3200 MHz, 2400 MHz, 1600 MHz etc.) will work with your specific computer as mentioned before. To do this, simply search up your motherboard’s model specifications to find the max bandwidth it can handle.
To find your motherboard model in Windows 10, go to the Power User Task Menu, type in “run” and then “MSinfo32.” Or you can check visually once you have the computer open and can access your motherboard.
Here are the installation steps:
Step 1: Remove power cable and unplug any other cables so you can turn your computer on its side.
Step 2: Take out the side panel (generally located on the left). This will allow you into the internal area of your computer where you’ll be able to see the RAM slots. Is DDR4 speed good for gaming performance?

Motherboards can usually only support one type of RAM technology.
