Overall this laptop is amazing, but HP don't make it perfect on the software side. The design is perfect, HP have done a great job fitting so much power and lots of features into such a thin design. Although, this does make it fairly heavy, it's worth it for the extra power in my opinion. I've seen many people complain about it being too heavy for tablet use; I would agree with them, but only if you're holding it for long periods of time. If you use it on the table or in bed it's great. I personally love being able to use it in bed as a tablet, without the fans getting blocked like my last laptop. If you don't feel the need for dedicated graphics and a 15-inch screen, then I would recommend getting the 13-inch model since it's so much lighter and still has that premium feel. The IR facial recognition and fingerprint sensors are super-fast, the 4K gorilla glass touch screen feels super high quality and cleans really easy. Make sure you're ready for only 1 USB port, I knew I would be using at least 2 at times, but since it comes with an adaptor so I wasn't too fussed. The cooling of the laptop is interesting, the fan on the right will only come on if needed. Be prepared as it can become quite loud if you're playing games or performing throttling tasks with the dedicated graphics. It's quiet, but not 'silent' when you're just browsing or doing simple tasks. The charging of the laptop is really fast, but only if it's shut down. Charging while using it feels standard so if you're travelling and need it charged it's best to fully shut it down beforehand. The battery life varies a lot depending on what you're using it for. HP says it'll last up to 12 hr 15 mins which I feel isn't true, but you'll definitely get 6+ hours when browsing, watching YouTube, etc. And just to clarify it is a UK keyboard layout, but it doesn't have a full sized enter key like normal UK keyboards. It's odd at first, but you get used to it. Now, about the software, or more specifically the drivers. In my opinion, HP are great for making a great value for money laptop, but I feel they skip out on drivers and support. For example, the Intel 8705G processor it has, came out in January and I'm stuck with a driver from February. There are 4 driver versions released by Intel after this and HP are yet to provide a new one. Manufactures have their own custom drivers for their products and HP have provided a driver that doesn't support OpenGL on the dedicated graphics. Meaning, I'm forced to use the Integrated graphics causing not so great performance when trying to use OpenGL programs. Intel even say on their site specifications for the 8705G that OpenGL is supported on both the Integrated and Dedicated chips. No idea why HP doesn't support it on the dedicated side. I contacted HP 3 weeks ago about this and haven't received a reply. Anyway, the laptop really is great! It can be powerful, thin and a tablet all at the same time, so overall, I would still highly recommend it, just be aware HP aren't the best for driver support which you'd expect for a laptop of this price.

This laptop is awesome. Only having previously owned budget laptops Ithought I would go upmarket to a premium model This Spectre was a dream to set up , only taking a few minutes before it was up and running. It loads up in seconds has a crystal clear screen, great back lit keyboard. It really is awesome. I didn’t quite give it 5 stars because the casing, whilst being vey attractive, is prone to show finger marks but a quick wipe over and it’s like new. My only other concern, and I think this may be due to the Windows operating system rather than the unit itself, is the sound quality from the speakers . The Realtek Audio enhancement tab is missing so unable to improve the sound. A real shame this as it doesn’t do the Bang & Olufsen speakers justice. I have tried everything to reinstall it but , as of yet , to no avail . However, I am over the moon with it and it comes highly recommended from me.

Still starting to get used to it and not yet tried it to the limit. It's beautiful, feels robust and seems to be working fine. But don't expect to use it as a tablet: it's just too big and heavy.

So, thought long and hard before I purchased this as it is quite a lot of money to spend. But, what a machine. Just over a week in and am very impressed. Super fast and plenty of storage. Screen quality is amazing. The numeric keypad on the right is an absolute must for me. It seems that not many laptops have it anymore and is great that they have put one on the Spectre, still managing to keep it relatively compact. Just a couple of little negatives.......... The sound is not great through the speakers (but it is a laptop so never going to great) but good though headphones. Battery life is good but not what is claimed if you are using it as normal. It does say 'up to' 12 hours, but I think you would only get that if you turned it on and didn't use it. For general use, browsing, email and streaming etc, you will get about 6-7 hours. Finally...... the pre-installed Mcafee 'free trial' antivirus is just annoying. I personally find Mcafee conflicts with too much. I would think it would be more useful to have a link to install if you wish, rather than have it installed already as its very hard to completely remove it (not just using uninstall). Overall, if you are thinking about buying this model Spectre, stop thinking and buy it!

Lacks ambient light sensor / auto dim control for keyboard backlit. Otherwise, is about the minimum I expect from a premium notebook.
