Screen size

For ultimate portability consider 13" screen sizes and below. Bigger screensizes will help you be more productive so look at 15" and 17" screens if portability is less of a priority.

Resolution

Screen resolution refers to how many pixels can be shown on the screen at one time. The higher the resolution, the more pixels that can be displayed, resulting in clearer and more detailed images. Choosing a Full-HD screen will make a big difference to the amount of information you can onscreen and will vastly improve your productivity and entertainment experience. For the ultimate performance choose models featuring Quad-HD or Ultra-HD (4K) screens.

Processor

The processor is the brain of a computer and is a great indicator of its performance capabilities as a whole. A more powerful processor not only means your Notebook will run faster, it also allows you to run programs that lower spec PCs struggle with, including photo editing, graphic design and music creation software.

The bigger the hard drive, the more space you have for all your files, photos, music and films.

Graphic card

There are two main types of graphics card – integrated and dedicated. Integrated graphics are built into the PC and are fine for everyday use such as browsing the internet or writing email. You’ll be fine watching movies on YouTube or looking at photos, but more complex tasks may be slow. Dedicated cards have more advanced technology and can handle intensive tasks such as video editing. Higher end cards will produce better frame rates when gaming. For best performance look for NVIDIA GTX 950 and above graphics.
