Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent plotter We had a previous HP printer, a 130NR, 24". Very old but it did the job. Had a few quirks that we managed to work around. FInally decided on a 36" printer and came back to HP. Chose the T520 cause it was the cheapest 36" we could find. Could not be happier. Especially with the ink prices. Yeah if you do full size color it might get expensive, but, our needs are a few plans drawings a day. It excels at that. Probably 10 times the speed of the 130 and so much easier to load and unload the paper. Having an extra spindle means I can quickly change from 24 wide to 36 wide in less than a minute. No, this is not a production machine. I didn't want to pay the premium for a big machine (like I have in my engineering company). Recommend this one highly. Have only gone through about 10 rolls of peper so far but it has been perfect. July 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 year later works great. Bought the T520 36 last year this time to save time and money over having drawings done by outside vendor. Well, I am pleased to say my printing costs have dropped dramatically. saved over over 2,000.00 my first year. ink and paper for entire year cost me a little over 800. I paid almost $4,000 last year outsourcing. After receiving recent updates, files get to printer faster. December 23, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by TERRIBLE for high volume printing My company has a 25+ year old Designjet that out-performs this new e-printer... it is the most temperamental machine I've ever worked with. The HP software package for ePrinting is a complete disaster and we eventually maneuvered to network the equipment without it; it kept trying to print basic 400kb vector files as bitmaps, or just wouldn't upload the media at all ("out of memory" is not a message I expected from a machine made in 2015, asked to print CAD files under 1MB). Some important notes: this machine is designed to function with HP media ONLY, and is ideal for low-volume printing; you can only use 150 ft media rolls or less because the plastic protective hood at the back of the machine obstructs larger material. I was completely misled by HP sales reps on this point: you cannot print to any material with a diameter larger than the internal depth of the hood. Similarly, you can not use HP's 3" core adapter to use anything other than HP's slimmer 2" core. After printing for a week, the machine is already collecting significant amounts of ink internally; a simple paper jam has left half the office with war paint smeared across their faces. Totally insane for a brand-new machine. The machine is easy to load when the roll diameter is an acceptable size (HP still hasn't clarified WHAT this perfect size actually is, I'd guess approx 150 ft for plain bond). Overall, I feel very misled by HP sales ("It can fit just about anything!" said one chipper sales rep) and am considering just cutting off the plastic hood to make this plotter work with the material I've been using on the 750cm for years. Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor quality equipment I have owned 2 HP plotters over the past 15 years. My last Designjet 800 was a workhorse, lasted for 10 years and croaked a few weeks ago. I needed a plotter fast, so my choice was the Designjet T520 because it "looked" like the plotter to replace my 800. Unfortunately, it had problems right out of the box. The printhead cartridge was fouled up and would not work. The plotter is not built the same as the old models, not as sturdy. It just seems cheap looking. Rolled paper can easily jam if not cut properly. The ink cartridges are only 29 ml (the old HP 800 was 69 ml) yet the cost of the HP T520 cartridges are the same as the HP 800. The plotter skips over plots, as if they were lost in the memory. I had to constantly re-print missing plots. No way this plotter will last for 10 years. August 29, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall satisfied Still testing the new product, and of course would like it to print like my old Plotter a designjet 430. So far, it doing what I need it to do, just tweeking and trying to find out how to print with out having to press the continue to print on the screen, because it detects something is wrong. Like I said Overall nice plotter, being an HP product I know it will last like my old plotter. August 7, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by T520 Large Format HP large formats are the best. The T520 was simple to setup, fast plotting, and very good quality for money spent. May 8, 2014

  1. [1] Local printing requires mobile device and printer to be on the same network (usually Wi-Fi access points bridge wireless to wired connections). Wireless performance is dependent on physical environment and distance from access point. Wireless operations are compatible with 2.4 GHz operations only. Remote printing requires an Internet connection to an HP web-connected printer. Wireless broadband use requires separately purchased service contract for mobile devices. Check with service provider for coverage and availability in your area. See http://www.hp.com/go/designjetmobility for more details.
