Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fast, great screen but unreliable I really wanted to like this calculator, the screen is large and bright and the touch aspect makes some tasks much simpler than using cursor keys. The CPU is wicked fast and graphs of even complex functions appear almost instantly. You'd think it was drawing them in the background as you entered them except zooming and panning are all just as instant. Bought this to help learn calculus and I've learned quickly that I can not rely on this calculator to check my work for the numerous bugs. A few examples: 1: put in any two equation in to the Symbolic screen and then go to the Plot screen. Use f1(x)=x^2 and f2(x)=x^3, it doesn't get much simpler. Now type 2[Enter] on the keyboard and you'll see the value of f1(2)=4 which is correct. Now press up on the direction pad and you'll see the value of f2(1.9609791957)=7.54082667308 It's obviously not you wanted to do but what if you weren't expecting whole numbers for x or y, you'd have to closely examine the values each time you change equations. 2:Clear out those two equations and set f1(x)=(x+7)^6/7 and go to plot view. You'll only see the portion of the graph to the right of X=-7, the calculator incorrectly does not draw the "v" shaped graph. If you set f2(x) to the derivative of F1(x) either by template or manually solving and typing 6/7(x+7)^1/7 again only ½ the graph is drawn. CAS f1(-8) will return -1.632+.78596i but there's no reason this should be a complex number! I also REALLY wish there was a way to disable the * in displays to show (for example) 2x instead of 2*x. The former is always accepted for input but never displayed for output, in fact it will change you input to include the *s. I want to love this thing. The keyboard is stellar, battery life is more than adequate, it just needs to get rid of the nagging little bugs and behaviors and it would by my go-to calculator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Graphing Calculator I purchased my first HP calculator, an HP-45, in 1973 while still in high school. From that time forward I became an devoted HP calculator fan and proud owner of HP-41 CX, HP-48 GX, HP-12C, HP-19BII, HP-50G and now the HP Prime calculators. With the exception of its lack of 3D graphing, it is superior to the TI-nspire CX CAS in every way. The touch screen, smooth user interface and excellent programming capabilities make it intuitive and a breeze to use. I teach high school math to gifted children with learning disabilities (usually one-on-one), and I do not hesitate to recommend the HP Prime as my top choice in advanced graphics calculators. In time I would hope to see, either through software updates or an updated model, the addition of 3D graphics, an equation library and more robust statistics and forecasting capabilities. And yes...thank you for the return of the traditional "enter" key...love RPN!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Calculator Been using HP calculators for 25 years and they never seize to impress me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product with space for improvements. I am an Hp user since 1975, when I bought an HP 45, at that time, the top of line. Before the Prime I had an HP 41 CX (unfortunately stolen) and an HP 50G. I am using Prime for one year now and can say that it is a gret tool. The only thing I really don´t like is the colors orange and blue on the pads. It is really difficult to read, mainly for me, an HP zealot at almost 63. Never had problems with the baterries, as reported by other reviwers. Expecting for a Prime II, including other colors on pads, equation library and an easier units converter (like the HP 50 G).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product - glaring omissions - keyboard color I agree with everyone who said that this is a great calculator, but it is missing some features and usability from previous HP calculators that would be welcomed. First to the keyboard - the color choices of orange and blue are not contrasty or dark enough particularly on the number keys to be seen easily. It seems that this calculator is aimed almost solely at the education market which is fine but in doing so left out longtime professional HP calculator users who would welcome a faster calculator with a color display. Please bring back the equation and constants libraries. They were very useful and with some of the animations would look awesome on this calculator. I always used the units menu, but I find the Prime, particularly with conversions to be very time consuming and clunky. I much prefer the menu environment on my 50g to the Prime. No problem with keeping the current menu system but I would hope that there would be a way to toggle to give older HP users an menu system they're more used to. Separate home and CAS environments? No RPN in CAS mode? I'm an HP calculator collector, ever since I got my first HP, a 48SX back in the early 90's and I've been a fan ever since. I think many older HP users may have bought this calculator hoping it was the next evolutionary step beyond the HP 50g. In many ways, speed, power, and display it is a better calculator but not what I'd hoped for. I find myself switching back and forth between the Prime and my HP 50 to do different things and this is a compromise that I should not have to make. Many other things to say, both good and not so good but you get my point. I really like the Prime and I want to love it, but until HP can make the Prime concept and the HP 50 have a baby together, I will never feel the same way as I did with my older calculators.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Powerful HP still Open to Further Improvment A definitive Major Hardware/Software step since the Saturn/Erable based 48/49/50g series, with up to date features like Rechargeable Battery, Color Touch Screen, Powerful ARM Processor and new CAS based on a port of the Giac Computer Algebra System. HP Prime has the Most Powerful Calculator Hardware/Software ever produced by HP, with Plenty Room for Improvements like a further port of the LongFloat Library which would allow it to take advantage of not only Indefinite Precision Integer arithmetic, but also Extended and variable Precision Floating Point arithmetic, when a port of the LongFloat Library were implemented on the HP Prime environment. The only still Lacking official support is for 3D Graphics, which is mitigated by the installation of third party packages like Graph3D. Another still missing resource is the port of the 48/49/50g Equation Library to the Prime Environment. Another aesthetic instance is the use of " * " for multiplication, instead of " . ", and not allowing user Customization of the standard product symbol. Some Menus could be Further Improved, since HP Prime has Many powerful resources like the Solution of Recurrent Difference Equations by means of the rsolve function, the approximation of functions in terms of pade expansions, z-transforms calculations, among Many other resources fully documented on its Very Extensive and Complete Catalog/Help system ( being simply the Best OnCalc Help documentation, among all portable Calculators ever released by any manufacturer ). I do indeed More than Fully Recommend HP Prime to all my colleagues and student classes, since it has not only the Most Powerful Hardware/Software ever released by HP, but also a tremenduous Potential for Major further Enhancements, since HP is constantly providing OS Updates, and most of all, Hearing with Great attention their customers Suggestions or bug reports, allowing it to further improvements, not initially imaginable at the time of its very first release. Another Great steps introduced by HP Prime, are its Vast array of Geometry constructs, and a New and fully procedural OnCalc programming Language, allowing the ease in development of New programmable resources. The fact of providing a Free Windows based emulator, and very reasonably priced Android app, simply puts HP on Top of all Portable Calculator Brands, in terms of Distinct platform support and Portability. Being a Proud and Very Long Term HP Calculators Heavy User, since Legendary models like HP-67, HP-41C, HP-15C, HP-48GX among many others, its with Great Confidence that I undoubtely Recommend HP Prime to any student or professional with Mathematical Needs, seeking for a Powerful/Affordable Portable solution.
