Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine Machine Fine machine. Miss CD/DVD drive & RCA connectivity...
Date published: 2017-10-28
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect machine, overall very good. Pros: Very fast, near instant boot, very quiet. Works very well. Elegant stylish design, few ugly cables needed. Cons: No front USB port, headphone jack goes to static instead of silence when in sleep mode - very annoying if using an external amplifier. Fix those two and it would be flawless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful, sleek machine with a few flaws. This is a beautiful sleek computer. The 4K screen is gorgeous and I love the "night mode" lighting option as well as the mirror-like coating on the panel. The recommended default zoom setting of 150% makes it practically impossible to see text, or anything in the task bar, especially the date and time. Setting the zoom to 200% or more helps significantly, but enlarges most everything else including web pages, to a ridiculously large magnification. There needs to be a better solution to this issue. Additionally, the onboard Bang & Olufson sound system has no punch, and sounds very tinny no matter how much you try to adjust the equalizer settings. You definitely need to add a couple of outboard speakers and a small sub woofer in order to get decent sound from this computer. You can definitely hear the drives working when sitting in front of the Envy, something that wasn't nearly as noticeable with a tower configuration, but it's something you can get accustomed to in time. I think the biggest drawback to the Envy All-in-One is the fact that all of the USB ports are on the back side of the base, making it very inconvenient and cumbersome to access, when for instance, you simply want to sync your iPhone or plug in a memory stick. There needs to be at least one USB port on the side near the headphone jack. This is truly a design flaw. With those exceptions, this computer is otherwise a pleasure to use, fast as all get-out, and for the money, a great buy as compared to an iMac with virtually the same hardware.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quick, nice screen, but flickers. The computer logs on quickly and has a very nice screen. The screen flickers black very briefly every few minutes. Some programs take much longer to load than they did on my old computer. I was surprised that there is a fan; it's not very loud, and you probably couldn't hear it in a loud office, but I find it annoying; my old all-in-one didn't have one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Still Not Sure After One Week I've had this computer for one week now. The previous computers I've owned since 2001 (4 models) have all been HP, our printers (3 models) have been HP as well as one HP camera. Guess that would provide some proof that we are pretty loyal to the HP brand. Our computer is customized, in order to replace our old HP All-In-One model purchased in 2009. We were very happy with the last model, but finally reached the point that replacement was necessary. This allowed us to upgrade from a 23" to 27" screen, though I haven't seen this is a big deal. The new computer is a bit lighter weight, on the other hand, there is no built in disc drive. I like my work desk as streamlined as possible. If I require a disc drive (for making my HP 8600 printer compatible with the Envy, for example), this adds to clutter I was trying to eliminate in the first place. We chose not to purchase the portable disc drive, now having problems syncing the printer to the computer. Looks like I'll have to connect computer directly to the printer; oops, there goes the convenience of wireless connectivity. Moreover, this computer is supposedly a lot more powerful than what we last had, yet I am experiencing problems with screen freezing up and very slow page downloading. I purposely ordered and paid for the fastest processor with most memory that was offered.. I also purchased the McAfee security for three years to protect against any virus that could produce the type problems I'm experiencing going to websites, none of which would be considered high risk type sites. So, I don't know what to make of this computer. I am considering returning it - even taking the hit of the 15% restock fee - as it does not seem to be as great a computing experience as my old model was (which was also customized ). User error? I just cannot see how computer screen freezing, requiring a restart, would be a result of any action of a user, nor should slowness of going from web page to web page be a user issue either. The ultimate problem for me is difficulty to determine whether the computer is defective or if it is something else. Cannot get to the bottom of this problem by myself. But , as you requested a review early on, we have to disclose that we are not sure this is the computer we want to use for the next decade. That is a shame, because we have enjoyed previous HP purchases and would prefer to continue a consumer relationship with HP. Please help or show us what is missing here. Thank you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from After the First Impression At first glance you would think this is a great computer, but at a closer look you can realize how poorly it is assembled. The arm that supports the monitor may look pretty but simply isn't enough to keep the display stationary, any slight bump on your desk or the computer itself sends the display into a distracting shake making it very annoying when you're trying to get work done. Second on the unit I receive the display wasn't level, it is tilted about 2 or 3 mm down to the left. Without seeing it that doesn't seem like a very big problem, but in person it really takes away from the premium look and cost of the unit. Lastly the display is made mostly out of plastic, so when you do adjust it or bump it you'll be surely reminded of how cheap the display really is by the sound of lots of creaking and cracking from the display bending slightly and having its plastic parts rub against each other. After using this computer for the amount of time I have and noticing all these flaws I am putting a great deal of thought into possibally returning it.
