They backdate it to the date you purchased your computer. It needs to be labeled more clearly. If you are purchasing it well after the date you purchased your computer, I don’t recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned Mine HP has changed and not for the better! Any extended warranties start from the date of purchase and NOT from the date of purchase or the date your previous warranty expires, Therefore they are NOT the length the consumer thinks they are, I was able to return mine for a refund thanks to my credit card company's help. HP does not care about long time loyal customers or how many of their products you own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading 3Y title - Close to a year after purchase, HP sends email offering a deal on an extended warranty for my laptop. I opt for a three-year plan as HP posted it, to discover that it is for 2 years after the original year that elapsed already. Tricky! No? Why would HP do that? Customer service guided me to where in the agreement, but not in the ad, it says that. Here is an excerpt. Term – In Warranty Agreement: The provisions of this Agreement, among other service plans, apply to in warranty service plans, i.e. a service plan which provides additional services to the services provided in the original warranty. The commencement date for in warranty agreements and service plans will be backdated to the date the HP product was purchased. Good luck with you own interpretation.
