Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Computer I spent some time looking for a new computer to, believe it or not, replace a computer that was 13 years old. I was holding out as long as I could since I didn't want Windows 7 and as soon as 8 was out, we knew 10 was on the way. I just kept patching and rigging. First of all, I decided on HP because compared to other brands, the technology, features and designs were much more current. Once I narrowed it down to HP, I found the HP Envy 750-114 more than enough to meet my needs-I believe I got a lot for the money. The computer is just for home use. I use basic programs such as Word, Excel, etc. I don't do a lot of graphics or video editing, but what I have done so far has been smooth. The unit is extremely quite and there was not a ton of useless bloatware and programs mucking up the system already. System is very fast and personally I like Windows 10. Those who don't like Windows 10 and reflect that in the computer ratings shouldn't confuse the two when reviewing, which I have seen on other sites. Set up was very easy. It took more time getting my old computer unhooked and out of the way than it did to set this up. It took a few times to figure out how to get a disk loaded because of the way the spindle is supposed to latch onto the disk, but eventually figured out the best way. I agree with the other reviewer that the keyboard and mouse would not be my first choice, especially the mouse, but the keyboard doesn't bother me enough to rate the computer lower; those tend to be personal preference anyway. I am just using my old mouse. Overall an excellent computer for my needs and would purchase again. February 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent choice !!! Well packed, supplied with Windows 10, super easy to set up, silent, powerful, elegant ! Best price/quality ratio on the market ! Thanks, HP ! January 13, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by The Good and the Bad This bundle (that you cannot customize) is a mix of good and bad. Thankfully the Good involves the most important parts. The new Intel 6th generation (Skylake) Core i5 processor is very peppy, (I don't do a lot of intense gaming or graphics design, so I didn't think I needed to go up to the Core i7. I haven't been disappointed.) The 12GB of DDR3 memory keeps things from getting constrained. (Note that it is only upgradable to a max of 16GB, if that concerns you for future upgrade. Again, I doesn't me.) The 2TB hard drive is the faster 7200rpm version, so it seems responsive and has more than enough capacity for me for a long time. (However, I think I will add a medium sized SSD to the system as the boot/Windows drive for really snappy performance.)The system is very quiet. (I understand that the Skylake processors generate less heat, so perhaps the fan runs less or at a lower speed.) Using the vertically mounted optical drive is a somewhat clumsy two-handed operation, but most of us don't load disks very often. Now for the Bad. The keyboard and mouse that are bundled with it are marginal at best. (The word "junk" comes to mind.) I will be replacing these immediately. The keyboard is small and cramped. The 'chicklet' keys have little feel to them. The arrow keys are crammed up against the other keys requiring you to carefully look anytime you use them. The 'Delete' key (that I use a lot) is awkwardly placed and small. There is no tilt adjustment. And worst of all, the identifying letters and figures on the keys appear to be decals with a clear smear around each figure that reflect the light from the monitor and overhead lighting, making it very hard to distinguish the keys (especially the tiny period, comma, and arrow symbols). The mouse feels cheap to hold. There is no feel to the buttons. so there is no subtle double -click possible. You have to mash the top surface to bend it far enough to contact something you can't feel. These are the primary tools that you use to interact with a desktop computer! I can't imagine why HP bundled such frustration-inducing components with an otherwise very nice system. Luckily it will only cost me $25-50 to fix. With a decent keyboard and mouse, I would have rated this system with 5's across the board. December 14, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by not much inside I got this for the hard drive size and ram to do movies and music. This is an exchange because the first one had sound problems. This one has graphic and sound problems. pages move and refresh and skip. If I plug my surround sound card in the PCI-1 slot where it belongs, it goes nuts and makes lots of noise. If I plug it in the PCI-16 slot it works fine. Go figure. There are only 2 slots on the MB so you can't upgrade very much. It's a small pc in a big box. November 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by good - excellent only 2 ram slots! sad October 30, 2015
